Tintagel Castle

User Rating: Very Good

Tintagel is not just a ruined castle set against a backdrop of stunning coastline; it is a magical place steeped in thousands of years of rich mystery and legend – King Arthur is said to have been brought up here.

The cliffs of Tintagel lie at a site of Special Scientific Interest, teeming with exotic butterflies, birds and lizards and rich in wild flowers.

There is always something new to discover at Tintagel: recent excavations further fuelled speculation over the Arthur legend with the discovery of the 'Artognou' stone, an inscribed slate from the 6th century.
