China Clay Country Park Visitor Guide - Reviews and Directions

This park is set in 26 acres of woodland with historical trails leading up to a panoramic viewpoint where you can see modern working clay quarry Wheal Martyn Pit.  The preserved Victorian clay-works has Cornwall’s largest working waterwheel and a collection of exhibits including a rare 1914 Peerless truck and other historic vehicles. Throughout the buildings there are fascinating examples of the ingenuity of the engineers who worked constantly to improve the efficiency of the extraction processes.

Includes fun interactive exhibitions, children’s adventure trail, shop and Café.

China Clay Country Park is located at Carthew, two miles north of St Austell on the B3274.  Look for those ubiquitous brown signs at the Stenalees roundabout.
